March 2026, around 2 AM. One of us needed to compress a few photos to email — originals 8MB, the corporate mailbox capped at 5MB. Googled “compress image online”. First result: shaved it from 8MB to 7.6MB, then demanded a Pro upgrade for further compression. Second result: forced signup, email verification, then maybe a download. Third: four blinking banner ads, one auto-playing video popup, and the biggest “Download” button turned out to be a Chrome-extension ad. By 2 AM, still not a single compressed image.
Next morning, we decided: forget it, let's build a proper tools site. No signup walls, no five banners per page, no fake limits to upsell. Open and use. That's how freeapps.vn started — one annoyed Vietnamese developer's bad night with the Vietnamese internet.
Who are we?
A small group of Vietnamese friends who like building things. Some do backend, some do frontend, one is mainly good at writing copy and brewing coffee (a critical role — without coffee, no site).
We don't publish names — not because we're hiding anything sketchy, but because this is a passion project, not a personal-brand vehicle. We want the tools to do the talking. If a compress-image tool works, you don't need a name to know it works.
What we want
Simple goal: make a place where Vietnamese folks can look something up, generate something, or convert something — fast — without spam, scams, or invasive forms. Especially older relatives and folks not deep into tech, who get hit hardest by predatory sites.
Long-term, we want freeapps.vn to feel like a public library of web tools — anyone can suggest, anyone can use. A few caretakers, mostly free books, occasionally a paid premium edition (but mostly free).
What we believe
- 1
Transparent over polished. Beta tools are labeled. AI-powered tools are labeled. Paid tools are labeled with clear pricing. No fine print.
- 2
Privacy is the default, not a premium feature. No first-party tracking cookies, no Analytics on user requests, no log selling.
- 3
Performance is a form of respect. We don't make you watch a 5-second ad before using a tool, don't load 12 scripts per page. Sub-1-second is the standard, not a goal.
- 4
Open code that someone else can read later. Because someone will. No hacks, no two-year-stale TODOs.
- 5
Funny, not corny. Terms pages should read without a lawyer. About pages can crack a smile. But the tools themselves are serious — they're a workplace.
How do we stay alive?
Servers, domain, bandwidth, email — all have invoices. Today we cover costs from two sources: (1) our own pockets (mostly saved coffee money), and (2) Google AdSense banners in a few places.
Future possibility: a few premium tools (using expensive third-party AI/APIs) might charge a small fee. But existing free tools stay free — we never claw back.
If you find the site useful, the best ways to support: tell a friend, suggest useful tools, or just don't enable adblock when you visit. Simple as that. No Patreon, no “buy me a coffee”, no NFTs.
